5 of Bali’s Best Hidden Beaches
It’s pretty safe to say that once you’ve enrolled into one of our courses, the next step is to look up the best places in Bali to spend your weekends. Whatever you’re into; surf, parties, where to brunch, or where to shop, we’re sure anyone from our Jamu School team can give you some local tips or suggestions. We’ll go more into detail throughout the upcoming posts, but in this one we’d like to give you some pointers on which hidden beaches you should discover during your trip here for when you want to be alone, or just want to chill with a few friends and have the beach all to yourselves.
- Nyang Nyang Beach
A personal favorite of the writer, this hidden beach will take your breath away. It takes some effort to get to (you have to go down a cliff for about 30 minutes), but it is definitely worth the sweat. Once you reach, you’ll be welcomed by an open grass field similar to the newest Jurassic Park movie; green fields behind you, crashing waves in front, and wild grass all around. Venture out a bit, and you’ll discover what seems like an old shipwreck site.
Make sure you bring some water, and maybe a few light snacks for your trip here because as most hidden beaches go, there will be no shops or sellers on the whole stretch. We also recommend you climbing back up to civilization before dark, as you’ll have to make your way through a leafy forest cliff (take the same path as how you got down).
2. Nusa Dua Beach
Though it’s not technically a hidden beach, Nusa is famous for its calm waters, extraordinary sunrises, cleanliness, and lack of a crowd (since it’s not big surf spot, and it’s located in the center of some pretty laid back resorts). Spend the day at spa school, and finish it off with a late-afternoon unwinding session by the beach, book in hand, and coconut freshly cracked. Best of all, stay at one of the places near the school and witness a signature Bali sunrise, just barely a 10 minute drive there and back!
3. Yeh Leh Boulder Beach
Not your typical white sand beach, but a must-see nonetheless! This beach is well known amongst the local fishermen, and that’s exactly why it’s on our list of best hidden beaches in Bali. It boasts authenticity, and makes for very one-of-a-kind pictures, and best of all, you’ll have a chance to observe how the local people make a living.
While this beach is easily accessible, you should definitely visit during the low tide to get the best view of the rocks. And keep in mind that this beach is not located near the school, in fact it’s a 2-3 hour car ride, so be sure to make some friends while you’re here, and save this one for a little weekend road trip up north!
4. Melasti Beach and Waterfall
At Melasti beach, you won’t just be spoiled by a gorgeous beach and sunset, your view will also include a waterfall! Yes, you read it right, a waterfall pouring its waters gracefully back into the ocean, on the beach. Its beauty is so unreal it belongs in a storybook (or as your facebook cover!).
This hidden beach is located relatively close to Tanah Lot, a famous temple that you’ll probably also visit during your stay here. So plan the day ahead, Tanah Lot Temple in the afternoon, and grab a late lunch before you enjoy a tropical beach sunset.
5. Karma Kandara Private Beach
Located on the property of a sexy resort here in Bali, called Karma Kandara, you don’t have to be a guest to enjoy its amenities. You will have to pay a fee of 250.000 (please confirm with their website for latest rates), but this includes food and drink from the restaurant and bar.
We’d say if you have a bit of extra cash, go for it. The views here are incredible, and you’ll get a bunch of instagram posts out of this visit! Besides the views, Karma also does a movie night, where they lay out beach chairs, and set up a big screen.
This beach won’t disappoint, many hollywood celebrities will say the same!
